Are curly hair extensions possible?
Table of contents
Do you have curly hair and are struggling with length issues? Does it seem not to grow at all due to its strong twist even though you hardly ever cut it? Are you wondering if the only solution for you is, for example, keratin straightening and then hair extensions with straight strands? Or maybe curly hair extensions are possible? Hair curl is genetically based, but the tendency to curl is inherited not only from parents. Curly hair has a complex structure, so it needs a specialized approach.
Curly hair extensions - will it work?
Hair extensions have recently become very fashionable and, thanks to the increased availability of this type of treatment, also extremely popular. While there are practically no restrictions in the case of straight hair, people with curly hair have doubts as to whether such a treatment will be successful and whether it will bring the expected results.
Curly hair extensions are, of course, possible. There are methods to extend even the most unruly strands. However, professional stylists stress that hair extensions must be natural to achieve the best results. Synthetic strands, combined with the demanding structure and properties of curly hair, do not guarantee a satisfactory final result. It is also very likely that they won't be suitable for reinsertion, i.e. pulling them higher when the hair grows back.
Methods for curly hair extensions
You should trust a specialist when choosing the best method for curly hair extensions. Various types of hair have different structures. They behave differently when exposed to heat or unfavourable weather conditions. A professional stylist is well aware of this. In addition, knowing the budget you have at your disposal, he or she will tell you which method you should use. The stylist will also assess the condition of your hair and select the appropriate care for it so that you can enjoy the effect even longer.
An improperly chosen method and thus poorly done hair extensions can make the joints between strands visible, completely spoiling the final result. It is also not advisable to do curly hair extensions with rings, as these can twist into the hair and lead to damage.
Curly hair extensions using the tape-in method are a very good solution because it doesn't cause tangling of the hair strands. The advantages of this method are also visible when the tapes are reinserted, which should be performed approximately every 2 months, depending on the rate of hair growth. Over time, curly hair can get tangled near the attachments and the use of a wide tape will help to avoid this. What's more, it is one of the fastest ways to extend your hair.
Curly and wavy hair can also be extended using the capsule method that originated in Spain, hence called the Spanish method. A special glue and glue activator containing keratin is used for this. We connect the hair with the attached extensions from the very root, sticking capsules with the mentioned glue to them. The advantage of this method is that the hair is not subjected to high temperatures. The glue doesn't need to be heated, it just needs to dry. However, it’s a time-consuming method and has many limitations, such as the fact that only blondes can use it due to the fact that the glue has a whitish tint when dry, which could make it stand out in dark hair.
Hair extension stylists use the latest technologies to ensure that every client is satisfied. However, in order to do curly hair extensions, we don't always have to use the services of a professional salon. If you want to do extensions yourself or add volume to your hair, you can put on natural hair extensions at home, which are also available in a "curly" option.
Care of curly hair extensions
Regardless of the method chosen, proper care is essential for curly hair. The most important thing is not to wash it for about 48 hours after the treatment. Later, we always wash it with gentle products. We wash our hair standing up, preferably in the shower.
To make sure that your hair looks beautiful for a long time, it is best to use professional products and choose special cosmetics for hair extensions. After washing, excess water should be squeezed out with a cotton towel and dried with a dryer. Use a natural bristle brush to gently brush your dry hair at least twice a day. This will keep it bouncy and tangle-free.
Curly hair extensions - price
The price for a curly hair extension treatment is an individual matter because it depends on the method used as well as the quantity and quality of the extensions. There is also a difference between wavy hair extensions and straight hair extensions.
The first price criterion is the choice between natural and synthetic hair. The former, which look 100% natural, will, unfortunately, be much more expensive, but their quality and durability will also be much better. When extending curly hair, it is advisable to choose natural Slavic and European hair that will match our natural hair, giving the effect we want.
The price for curly hair extensions can range from £280 upwards. The maximum price will depend on the client's expectations, the materials used and, of course, the curly hair extension method chosen.
